The Power of Workplace Giving: More Than Just a Good Deed

I have had the privilege of working for companies that prioritize generosity and community impact, values I deeply respect. Supporting and improving the communities where we live and work is something I believe is essential to a company's identity. Contributing to a purpose greater than profit adds meaning to our work and allows us to make a real difference in people's lives, and I’m not alone in this belief:
71% of employees say it’s imperative that their employer supports giving and volunteering (charities.org)
Employees are 5 times more engaged when their employer offers a volunteer program (galaxydigital.com)
Giving actually has a positive impact on the brain. Our brains reward us for helping preserve society, releasing the same types of feel-good chemicals as during exercise. (https://www.groundswell.io/blog/why-do-people-donate-to-charity)
What is Corporate Giving?
Corporate giving refers to the charitable donations and support that companies provide to nonprofits, community organizations, and social causes. This can take many forms such as financial contributions, volunteer programs, in-kind donations and matching employee gifts. While the methods may vary, the intent is all the same: to invest in the well-being of communities, advance social good, and align corporate values with meaningful action.

The Culture of Giving at Summit
Giving and community involvement are a core part of Summit’s culture—reflected in both quarterly team volunteer events and the corporate giving account offered through Groundswell. Organizations that prioritize giving often foster more inclusive, compassionate, and collaborative workplaces. This approach strengthens team connections and reinforces a shared commitment to the company’s mission. Summit exemplifies this in meaningful ways, below are some detailed examples of Summit’s giving culture.Â
Volunteerism
At Summit, we have a team dedicated to finding and coordinating quarterly volunteer activities with organizations across the Indianapolis area, many of which have been suggested by employees because the cause and organization are meaningful to them. Past efforts have included donation sorting for new and expecting moms, meal preparation for our housing insecure neighbors, and constructing a wheelchair ramp for an individual who was home-bound. These experiences not only make a positive impact in the community but also strengthen team connection and collaboration.Â
Charitable Giving through Groundswell
Summit utilizes the Groundswell platform to provide employees with personal charitable giving accounts. Each month, Summit contributes to these accounts, allowing employees to support any 501(c)(3) organization of their choice. Employees may also contribute additional funds at any time. This meaningful benefit places the power of giving directly in the hands of the team.
Final Thoughts
Corporate giving is more than just philanthropy—it’s a strategic investment in people, purpose, and the planet. When companies give, they don’t just do good—they inspire others to do the same. In a time when trust, empathy, and connection matter more than ever, giving isn’t just powerful—it’s essential.
